Gutter Cleaning

Clogged gutters turn into ice dams. Ice dams turn into ceiling stains.

What it is

Gutter cleaning means getting every leaf, needle, roof granule, and seed pod out of the gutters and making sure the downspouts actually drain. It is not glamorous work, but a clogged gutter is one of the most common causes of water damage we see: water backs up under the roof edge, spills over onto the foundation, and in winter freezes into ice dams.

We hand-clear the gutters, bag the debris, and flush the downspouts with water to make sure they run clear. While we are up there we can also wash the outside face of the gutters, where black streaks build up over time, so they match a freshly washed house.

Equipment and method

Crews work from ladders with stabilizers that rest on the roof, not on the gutter, so nothing gets bent. Debris is scooped by hand into buckets or bags, never blown across your lawn or onto the neighbor's roof. Each downspout is flushed. If one is packed solid, we clear it from the top and the bottom, and disconnect it at the elbow if we have to.

If you have gutter guards, we pull and clean them or clean over them depending on the type. We take photos of sagging sections, loose hangers, or leaking seams and send them to you, so you know what is going on up there.

What is included

  • Hand removal of all debris from the gutters
  • Debris bagged and hauled off, not left on the lawn
  • Every downspout flushed and confirmed clear
  • Roof valleys near the gutters cleared of buildup
  • Photos of sagging, leaking, or loose sections
  • Optional gutter face brightening

Signs you need it

  • Water spilling over the gutter edge in a storm
  • Plants or grass growing out of the gutters
  • Downspouts that barely drip during rain
  • Icicles and ice ridges along the roof edge
  • Stains on the siding right under the gutters

The Colorado angle

Denver gutters fill with more than leaves. Pine needles, cottonwood fluff, and roof granules knocked loose by hail all end up in there, and granules are heavy enough to settle and plug downspouts. Then winter brings melt during the day and hard freezes at night, which is exactly how ice dams form. A cleaning in late fall after the leaves drop, and another in spring before storm season, keeps water moving off the roof and away from the foundation.

Quick answers

How often should gutters be cleaned?

Twice a year for most homes, late fall and spring. Homes under big pines or cottonwoods may need a third cleaning in early summer.

Do you clean gutters on two-story homes?

Yes. We clean single, two, and most three-story homes with the right ladders and safety gear.

Can you fix my gutters?

We can reseat a downspout or tighten a loose elbow on site. For bigger repairs or replacement, we photograph the problem and point you to a gutter installer.
